Synergy Underway Print E-mail

welcomesign.pngThe final preparations for Synergy 1 were in full swing on Wednesday, Feb. 20. With committee members and attendees arriving from far and wide, the Baltimore Convention Center was a beehive of activity.

The historical exhibit of polymer clay work, graciously lent by Hollie Mion, was being carefully arranged and admired under Hollie's watchful eye.

Mary Fassler and Maureen Thomas, Synergy Gallery Co-chairs oversaw the 80+ artists displaying work for the Gallery. A large team of volunteers were there to direct the artists to their display spaces and assist them in securing last minute items, answering questions and, best of all, getting to see the goods in advance of Thursday's preview.

Up front, Dorothy Greynolds and her Registration volunteers made sure the attendees had their packets and many attendees hung out, either volunteering as needed or enjoying the Big Room. Despite the gentle snow falling, the overall mood was one of excitment and anticipation.

Thursday morning dawed cold and bright. The Tremont Plaza Hotel shuttle began its constant run, taking Synergy attendees to (and from!) the BCC. Seminars began at 8:30 AM and continued through until the last seminar ended at 9:00 PM.

In between each seminar, a variety of events were planned for all to enjoy. During the mid-morning session, Kathleen Dustin gave a presentation of the history of polymer clay in America.

The Teacher Fair allowed all attendees to speak with, and gather teaching packets, from over 30 instructors from the polymer clay, metal clay, metalworking, fiber and mixed media genres.

Afterwards, Jeff Dever moderated a panel discussion titled Hallmarks of Craftsmanship. The panelists engaged in a lively discussion, both amongst themselves and with the audience.  Our thanks to Jeff, Rachel Carren, Sarah Shriver, Alison Lee, and Donna Kato for this relevant and timely discussion.

Day 1 report to be continued tomorrow....
